2018 is likely to be one long round of electioneering — besides the north-eastern states, assembly elections are due in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan where the BJP is incumbent, and in Karnataka that the BJP is trying to wrest from the ruling Congress party. And it is all shaping up into the sort of witches’ brew that Shakespeare provided the recipe for.

Happy 2018

Jesus, just kill every hope, why don’t you? Surely one good thing happened in the year? Your blog isn’t the place to find it, is it?

That comment, below my last post of 2017, is the first thing I saw on my blog this year. What can I say? This blog is intended to be a place where I link to, and occasionally reflect on, news and issues that I believe are important to be aware of. (And I don’t link to *all* such items — that would be a 24/7 exercise). There is enough PR work being done by the media without my adding to it — but that said, when and if I find something that qualifies as ‘good news’, I’ll link to and comment on that as well.
